Sabah Day 1: Singapore - Kota Kinabalu

Our trip started on Monday 5th September 2011. After working half day in the morning, I took an AirAsia flight AK 6274 to KK in the evening while my parents flew from Hong Kong. My flights were booked way back in May and the return trip cost SGD 229, including 15kg check-in luggage allowance. Due to air traffic the flight was delayed for an hour and I arrived in KK at 8:50pm. The journal took approx 2 hours 15 min.
To take a taxi from the airport, you'd have to purchase a voucher from the counter for RM30. The trip to the city about 10 min. I believe there are public buses available but they are not very frequent.

Sarangnova Hotel is located on Jalan Gaya, a main street in city centre. I made the booking in advance after reading the positive comments on TripAdvisor. It's a simple and clean hotel with free wifi connection. The rooms are a bit small but comfortable enough. The wall of each room is decorated with a picture and descriptions of a bird unique to Borneo, which I found quite cute. The family room we stayed in has a queen bed, a single bed and a bathroom and was RM160 per night, instead of the advertised price of RM200 on the internet. A refundable deposit of RM50 was collected at the time of check-in and returned at check-out.
